How private is this family tree? Will my information be available on Google?

There are privacy rules about what information is available to be viewed.

What this means in relation to search engines: spiders such as those used by Google and Bing are non-members. They can (and do) add to their search engine public records of individuals who have been deceased more than 10 years to their catalogs, but no others.

Is there any way to format text?

Often you may want to add links, bold, or italic text to a text block such as a note or citation source. This software (webtrees) uses Markdown to allow simple, plain text formatting within the text blocks, which allows the formatting to be exported as part of the GEDCOM and it will not interfere with readability of the text even when read as unformatted text display.
